If you want to unread the message on Instagram, switch your account to a professional one.
- Sign in to your professional Instagram account. A person with a regular Instagram will need to be able to mark messages as unread on Instagram. The benefit of professional business or creator accounts on Instagram is that you can mark one chat as unread and multiple of them.
- Go to your Instagram Inbox or Instagram Direct. The messenger icon is available at the top right of the screen, which is at the top next to the heart icon.
- Next to your username, you will see a checklist icon. Again that is the top right icon. After you have selected this icon, you’ll get a radio selection option that allows you to choose multiple messages in your inbox.
- After you select the desired chat below, you will see the option More.
- After selecting the More option, you will see options like flag, mute, and more.
- Select Mark as Unread. This will instantly unread all the messages, and a blue dot will appear on the far right of the chat indicating unread messages.
How To Read Messages Without Detecting Them?
This simple trick will help you read messages without the sender knowing. Here’s how you can do it.
- Go to your Instagram account. You can open the feed and let every message and other notification on the app load. Do not open the messages, as the sender will receive the seen notification under the message. There is no way you can undo a seen message. This method of reading messages on Instagram allows you to read without an internet connection.
- Disconnect your phone from the connected wifi or Turn off your data connection on your Android or iPhone; you can also Switch on airplane mode but remember to turn off the internet connection.
- Now go to your Instagram messages and view the message. You’ll be able to see the messages as they are already downloaded, and you don’t need an internet connection to read the messages.
- After you have seen the message, you will have to log out of your Instagram account. This prevents Instagram from marking read. Go to your profile; go to settings and scroll below. You will find the option of logging out.

Previewing Instagram Messages Through Airplane mode
This is a simple and less complicated method than the previous one, which you can use to preview the message on Instagram. When you go on airplane mode, your phone will instantly get disconnected from an internet connection. Here’s how you can use this to preview messages on Instagram.
- Switch airplane mode on your phone. You will be easily able to locate the airplane mode on your device.
- Once the airplane mode is on, your phone is automatically disconnected from wifi and cellular data.
- After doing so, go to Instagram, and you will be able to see all the preview messages which have been loaded into your Instagram account.
In this method, the sender will know you have seen the message once your phone is connected to the internet through wifi or cellular data. This can be done by people who have a private Instagram account and do not want to switch to a business or creator’s version.
You can also check Instagram messages through notifications. When you check messages from Instagram notifications, the other person does not receive any notification, allowing them to know whether you have viewed the message.
